Blocks for Good

Blocks for Good is a new program to help support the guild's Community Giving initiatives. In several ways, it is similar to our Block Lotto program, except these blocks will be put together and will be donated through the Community Giving Program

This first batch of Blocks for Good is earmarked to go to Quilts for Everyday Heros.

"Quilts for Everyday Heroes is an organization that appreciates and recognizes first responders for putting themselves into emotionally challenging and dangerous situations daily. We hope to wrap first responders who are struggling with mental health in a handmade quilt to let them know that we are aware of the struggle that comes from their determination to make our world a safe place."

Blocks are due at the October 20th guild meeting. We will take the blocks to retreat in Canmore the following weekend, and hopefully, with a few extra hands, will get the top (or tops) assembled.

As this program evolves, If anyone would like to adopt/sponsor one of these quilts, i.e., donate a backing, finish a whole quilt, or just complete one of the tasks along the way, we would love your help.

Colour Palette: Blue, green, and anything in between ...“ mostly muted blues and greens with a few brighter tones “.

The Pattern:

Film in the Fridge does it again! This is a nice easy block and combined with this great colour palette, I'm sure we will get LOTS of blocks to kick start our new program! - block link

• Print fabrics are good. Solids are good too, but please combine them with prints.

• There are notes in the tutorial about directional prints (best for the center square) and scale of the other fabrics.

• Mix up the strip sizes.

• If you are not quite sure on size(or just dont want to worry) add 1/8″-1/4″ to the measurement for the second ring, then trim block down to size once the block is finished.

• Blocks trim to 11.5"

• Use modern fabrics that you like or love! If you are unsure about your fabric selection as it relates to 'Modern', please ask.
