The Calgary Modern Quilt Guild is excited to reveal the upcoming "Blocks for Good" project within our Community Giving initiative. In the following months, we will be utilizing the Chips & Jelly quilt pattern from Just Get It Done Quilts. (It's Stashbuster 13) This simple and stash-reducing design is ideal for quilters of all skill levels, and together, we’ll craft something significant while contributing to our community.

Fabric

To craft unified and striking quilts, we request members to utilize masculine fabrics in these colours:

  • Black, white, grey, and yellow.

  • Please avoid floral fabrics and do not use white for the frames.

This colour palette creates a contemporary and fresh feel, making the completed quilts adaptable and appropriate for a wide range of recipients.

Block Dimensions

Every block needs to be 8 1/2" x 16 1/2" in size. These consistent dimensions will facilitate easier assembly and lead to stunning completed quilts.

Pattern Highlights

The "Chips & Jelly" quilt combines two key elements:

  • Jelly rolls for consistency and ease.

  • Potato chip blocks for a fun, scrappy design.

With its single nested seam and adaptable size, it’s quick to assemble and provides a perfect canvas for showing off our chosen colour palette.

How to Participate

  1. Make Blocks: Create as many blocks as you can using the specified colour scheme and dimensions. Instructions can be downloaded from the Just Get It Done Quilts website.

  2. Bring Your Blocks: Drop off your completed blocks at our next guild meeting. We’ll assemble them into quilts for donation as part of our Community Giving program.

Why This Pattern?

The "Chips & Jelly" quilt offers a quick and enjoyable way to utilize scraps, maintaining a straightforward yet striking design. It provides an opportunity to transform those leftover fabric pieces into a beautiful and practical item for someone who needs it.

Join Us in Giving Back

We’re excited to see your creativity and contributions. Let’s work together to bring warmth and comfort to our community, one block at a time. Happy quilting!
